For example the sound of an ambulance siren during an intense scene.
0:35-1:35
Diegetic Sound:The sound of the maze breaking as Minho and Thomas run. Helicopter noises are in the background. Thomas shouting 'Minho' while he is being dragged into a helicopter.

Non-Diegetic Sound: 35 seconds to 38 seconds. The loud dramatic music in the background. The antagonists are talking over the top while the current scene is happening.

Meta-Diegetic Sound:

True Detective-Life is a dream:
How is sound used in this film clip to create meaning?
The music creates meaning by starting off slow and quite then building up becoming more intense and the music makes you feel intense. The music is a non diegetic. When one of the men starts speaking it cuts off to a shot of a green field and some run down houses adding cricket noises and the noises of the trees and wind, whilst the mans voice is still heard, this is non- diegetic sound. Diegetic sound is used when the mans cigarette is burning. It is louder then its meant to be to create tension. It sounds crackly which can sound quite tense.
